FOTR: DJ Big Jacks

#FOTR this week is DJ Big Jacks out of Toronto. This long standing music junkie has been intensely curating his love of music since the jump with his pops. His deep crates have taken him all over the world to DJ (including this upcoming Saturday at The Rub!), mixes featured by fashion brands like H&M, Forever21, Aritzia, etc. and he’s a Toronto radio community staple along with DJ Royale, his Grand Groove DJ partner in crime, and Bozack Morris. He just released his latest mix for Aritizia a couple weeks ago and it’s quickly become a favorite for us. The vibes are super clean and will get you those glow up type of feels we’re always after. Stream it in full below and check out his links as well. And don’t miss Big Jacks at The Rub this Saturday!

FOTR: Herbert Holler

FOTR this week is NYC’s own Herbert Holler. You’ve probably seen/heard him as part of the trifecta of DJs that make up Freedom Party (shout out Cozi and Marc Smooth), but he’s been lacing the NY party seen for a decade plus with feel good music. He dropped this “Friends With Benefits” mix last month and it caught our collective ears as something we wanted to share. As a dude who’s out to make people smile and appreciate music as much as he does, it definitely permeates this super fresh mix. Stream in full below and make sure to connect with Herbert on the socials.

FOTR: Thee Mike B

FOTR this week is the LA forever homie, Thee Mike B. It is believed that he came up with the phrase “a dude among dudes” or at least is the first one fully embody it. He’s been a staple DJ and influencer on the west coast for eons and in recent years, he’s carved out a nice little niche with his Brillstein house music productions. Case in point is his fire new EP on Brobot just out last week. You can peep those vibes below as well as get linked with all the Brillstein socials. If you tight with Mike, he just had a birthday Monday as well. Happy Birthday boss. Hope it was as trill as humanly possible.

This great producer/dj, activist and cool dad is still fighting the good fight in 2017 and we’ve got a couple things to give him dap for. They recently marched in the Climate March in Washington DC and raised $1300 that same night at U Street Music Hall for the People’s Climate Movement. On top of that, he’s dropped some new music under a new alias, El Niño & The Southern Oscillations, that’s just gorgeous. Stay up with the man on the socials below.

FOTR: Smalltown DJs

FOTR this week is a couple of our favorite Canadians in Smalltown DJs. They’ve been holding down Calgary for what feels like forever and it’s pretty much impossible to say anything other than great things about them. They turned a club night into a keystone North American venue over 10 years ago. They drop killer best of the year mixes every single year. And they just recently released a really cool new original song on Fool’s Gold with guest vocals from Lisa Lobsinger (formally of Broken Social Scene). Stream this lovely new tune below and follow these great dudes pon di socials.

FOTR: Cousin Cole

FOTR this week is Cousin Cole, our other special guest for this month’s edition of The Rub at The Bell House. Originally from the Midwest, Cole has since become a NY/BK music staple and has been laying a foundation of cool music and good friend levels wherever he goes. Originally breaking out a bit back in the Hollerboard days with his club music productions and clever remixes, he started DJing on the reg in NY and eventually all over the world. A few years later, his “So Emotional” series with Phi Unit solidified the soulful movement in Moombahton as a very legitimate thing. Today, Cole’s DJing on the steady in NY and still cranking out interesting tunes whenever possible. Check out his New Year’s Day 2017 mix below along with all his relative socials. And don’t miss him throwing down this Saturday at The Rub!
