FOTR this week is Kevlove, who is also our special guest this Saturday at The Bell House. He’s a Jersey City native and has been embedded in the burgeoning culture that’s been developing there. Any quick glance at Kev’s socials and you see that he’s loaded up with a number of gigs every single week whether in Jersey or NY/BK. What’s got us so hyped on him playing The Rub this Saturday is the way he rocks a set. His M.O. is really encapsulated in this quote: “What is most important to me in DJing or any project I undertake is to genuinely have the love for it. This foundation is imperative because everything else after falls into place – people begin to see your vision, you start connecting and building relationships, and opportunity begins to present itself.” PREACH. You can get a quick feel for his vibe on the decks with his fresh edition of Rub Radio he just dropped for us last week below. Stay up with him as well on all the socials and we’ll see you all on Saturday at The Bell House.

FOTR this week is Annie Mac. She’s one of the most prominent radio DJ personalities in the world and who can really imagine BBC Radio 1 without her. Over the last decade, she’s made a name for herself off the air as well as a club dj, tastemaker, talent-finder and just an overall champion of new music. Over the last couple of years, she’s launched her own festival (AMP Lost & Found) and released her debut compilation album last year. Maybe this As she continues to be a trailblazer, she’s still holding down her weekly shows at BBC Radio 1 Monday – Friday. Last night featured a magnificent interview with Four Tet that you check below. Make sure to click some links and stay connected as well. Maybe she’ll bring back Free Music Monday’s at some point as well. 🙂

FOTR this week is Prince Klassen. He’s a regular guest at The Rub and a top shelf FOTR if there ever was one. He moved out of NY at the end of 2016 and there was a short time where it was unknown if he was going to maintain his presence out our monthly event at The Bell House. Thankfully, things have settled in on a bit of normalcy and Prince Klassen has been a part of almost every Rub party so far in 2017. With his regularly scheduled monthly visits now, he’s been playing other parties and keeping up with his Wild Combinations Mix series out at Lot Radio. Check out his most recent mix below and click on some of his socials to keep tabs with our bud.

FOTR this week is the dj and production duo Oliver. U-Tern and Oligee linked together in LA many years ago and started off with a bang, releasing 80’s influenced funky disco tunes and remixes for the likes of Juan Atkins, Chromeo, Breakbot and many others. They quickly earned a strong reputation for their production prowess and dj sets and have traveled all over the world playing clubs and festivals alike. This past Friday saw the long awaited release of their debut full length record, which you can stream below in full. Give them a follow on all the relevant socials linked as well.

FOTR (Friends of the Rub) this week and this month’s special guest is NY’s own Sammy Needlz. Sammy is Producer/DJ/doer-of-all and is a decade plus staple at Shade45 on SiriusXM with fellow FOTR Statik Selectah. He’s also traveled all around the world to rock various different club scenes and recently he’s started to spread his wings as a budding tour manager for a steady roster of top shelp EDM talent. Over the past several years, he’s also started to heavily focus on working in the studio and being involved with the creation of original music, whether it’s his own or his A&R efforts on a number of current projects. Behind the decks though is his ultimate safe space and we’re expecting him to really come with it on Saturday at the Bell House. So make sure and pop in the front room to check out what this dude can bring to the tables. For now, check is his latest mix for DJ City below.

FOTR this week is the team that is Fool’s Gold Records. Founded by A-Trak, Nick Catchdubs and Dust La Rock (RIP) in 2007, they’ve branded themselves as a true innovator and tastemaker in terms of the music they release and how they present themselves as an entity in the music business. They’ve always been super supportive of The Rub and we consider them family for it. This coming Saturday is Fool’s Gold Day Off NYC at the Coney Art Walls and features a crazy lineup of acts like Jay Electronica, Flosstradamus, boss man A-Trak, PNB Rock, recently added Trippie Redd and many others. Tickets can still be copped right HERE. Don’t miss it!

FOTR this week is Anna Lunoe. She’s established herself as a true mogul in dance music after relentless touring, making the Hyperhouse brand explode through her Beats 1 Radio show as well as steadily releasing music with her production work and vocal prowess. In the U.S. alone, she’s gone from playing illegal warehouse raves to less than 100 people in Kansas City close to 10 years ago (I was there) to touring with folks like Jack U and playing every major festival stage you can think of. She closed out a long run of constant touring this past weekend at the 10 year anniversary of HARD Summer while 8 months pregnant. She’s about to take an extended break to have her baby and we wish her and her family the absolute best. Check out her latest single below and make sure to keep up with Anna on all her socials.

Our second FOTR this anniversary week is Max Glazer. It’s been awhile since he’s guested with The Rub but we’re very excited to have him back. He’s a terrific DJ and his unique Dancehall/Reggae vibe is something we love and feel it really compliments our “play everything” approach.
Max is part of Federation Sound with Kenny Meez and they together have become a worldwide force in reggae music. The pair have a fantastic radio show on RBMA that airs every third Wednesday of the month. Make sure to check out the most recent episode featuring Estelle and Tarrus Riley that’s embedded below. Max also just returned from touring in support of Chronixx, one of the biggest names currently in revival reggae.
Max is a longtime friend and we’re really in for a treat Saturday as dancehall and reggae have seen such a welcomed resurgence in popularity in and out of the club. This set is not to be missed!

Our first FOTR this anniversary week is DJ mOma. He’s guested with us at The Rub so many times at this point over the years now that he’s basically Rub family. He’s also no stranger to our FOTR section either. (Like here, here and here.)
In case you aren’t up on his steady stream of NY visibility and work, his Everyday People party is one of the best parties in the city and very recently got this glowing feature article in the New York Times. Along with Eli Escobar, another long-time FOTR, Mo has a years long residency at Le Bain called Dance Dance Dance and he regularly fills in for ?uestlove at his Bowl Train party at Brooklyn Bowl. Don’t sleep on these mOma + Guy tracks and edits either.
A great dude, an always inspiring party rocker, and a true music head. You can be guaranteed mOma’s going to play an amazing set for our 15th anniversary celebration this Saturday!

FOTR this week is YehMe2. You may recognize him as the guy who publicly left Flosstradamus after a decade plus of being in that very influential project. This past week showcased the release of his 2nd mixtape to honor this solo departure, as it’s now been a year since the seemingly amicable split. It’s always fascinating to see someone break out on their own from a successful group project and “Steal This Mixtape 2” sounds like a solo artist coming into their own. Stream this nu nu in full below and click some links to keep up with all things YehMe2.
