1.23 – That New New

January 2017 is almost already over and TNN this week examines some nu nu from the past week or so as we tie a weirdly odd and stressed bow on month one of the new year. Speaking of weirdly odd, you have to watch this beautiful disaster that is the video for Young Thug’s “Jeffrey”. Is it a real situation that was documented to perfection? One would have to say yes. Next is a new one from Maggie Rogers (remember the music student who made Pharrell cry last year?) and she knocks her deliciously new school folky sound out of the park again. Finally, is new comer MarcLo and his tune “SWNGN” which flips Montell Jordan (which flipped Slick Rick who flipped Bob James) but does it with new school taste and flair. Peep all 3 in full below.

Winter Sadness 1 by Djeleven on Mixcloud

TBT this week back to Eleven’s super smooth Winter Sadness mix. Yeah, it’s that time of the year where it always feels dreary with the cold and clouds. Whether it’s the political climate or actual temperature that’s put that frown on your face, one quick revisit of this mix should help turn that frown right around. Classic Soul, Hip-Hop and Reggae on full display here with a side of hot cocoa and your trusty space heater. Stream in full above or grab that download below.

FOTR: Pushermania

FOTR this week is Matt Sonzala aka Pushermania. He’s a legend in Texas and internet circles for repping all things dope in Texas and in general. As a scene developer and influencer, he’s made his mark over the years as a consultant for music oriented companies, artists, labels, festivals, brands and more. He was also a pretty legendary figure in the Hollerboard days and we absolutely have to give him a nod for helping make Sabbath In The Park the celebrated experience it became. He celebrated a birthday yesterday and has been cranking out a great new podcast on the reg. Give the most recent edition a listen below and click some links to keep tabs on what this dude stays up to.

1.16 – That New New

The new release flow for 2017 is definitely getting itself going and the heat is really starting to roll out. First up is the brand nu nu from Migos. Sure “Bad and Boujee” is the #1 song in the country right now but “T-Shirt” is out now and it’s flames and so is the video. Next we’ve have a solo sighting from Syd of The Internet fame. Definitely a different side to what we’re used to from her but this is fly. Finally, in more ways the one, we’ve got new music from SZA and word of her new album will see the light of day soon. Peep all 3 in full below.

#TBT – Rub Radio – January 2014

#TBT this week comes from the Rub Radio archives. 3 years ago for 2014 definitely doesn’t sound like that long ago. It’s light years in internet time though. Luckily the ears of Ayres of Eleven are keen to sounds that stick around. And there’s a few tracks from this mix holding strong in DJ sets to this day. Kid Ink, Yo Gotti, Busta w/ Q-Tip and Beyonce all stand out here. Inclusions here from future big names like Baauer, Tensnake & Gorgon City don’t hurt either. Revisit this one in full above with the download below.

FOTR: 2¢

The first FOTR for 2017 is the dudes DJ Craze and Four Color Zack who make up the duo 2¢. We’ve featured them here before and as solo DJs, they should really need no introduction. They’ve just dropped the 3rd edition of their mix series and it’s as tight and inspiring as the first 2. You can stream Part 3 below in full and make sure and follow them on the socials as well. Get up with these guys who you haven’t already as it looks like they will be doing a lot of dates together in the U.S. this year.

1.9 – That New New

It’s 2017 in case you didn’t notice and we’ve got a full week into the new year under our collective belts. What that ultimately means here is that TNN is back and we’ve got new music to share. First up is another new song from the xx, who have a new album dropping this upcoming Friday and have announced a full scale North American summer tour. Next, we’ve got a new slapper from Jazz Cartier that is one of the most club ready cuts he’s made. Finally, we’ve got a new school/old school RnB jam from Ace Tee out of Germany. No idea what she’s saying but the vibes are super fresh. Check out all 3 in full below.

#TBT this week is the Adidas Originals mix we got asked us to make for their Classics series back in 2013 where we picked up our crystal ball and predicted 25 Future Classics. These are some of our favorite rap records from the last year and change, with a sprinkling of rock, dancehall and trap, mixed in a relentless Rub Radio style. Lots of goodies here that have (so far) stood the test of time. Peep the mix above and the tracklist below.

FOTR: Jon Kwest

FOTR this week (and to kick off 2017) is Jon Kwest out of DC. He’s been a heavy contributor to the moombahton scene since the jump and he’s been somewhat of torchbearer when it comes to putting compilations together with a creative spin. Even with it being awhile since his last one dropped, the excitement in the last 24 hours of a new comp for the new year has officially kicked in. “Soulove” is a newly released 18 track collection for charity (put together by other Rub homies such as DJ Melo, Deejay Theory, Doc Adam, Emynd, J-Boogie and others) to support Planned Parenthood and ACLU. Make sure and peep this fresh compilation below to contribute to the cause. Links to Kwest and all his socials are included as well.
