Here’s a fairly odd pick for us, a bootleg of Darude’s Sandstorm, with a dark Jersey Club feel. It’s part of a free 23 track compilation from We Buy Gold – Trancework 2.0. We’ve never been big fans of trance, but some of these are really infectious, pairing up the candy rave arps with more aggressive basslines and drums, especially the footwork stuff. Other remixes to check out from the comp are Da Hool “Meet Her At The Love Parade” (Slick Shoota Remix) and ATB “9 PM (Till I Come)” (DJ Paypal Remix).

We’ve been beating the drum for Miguel’s album since he started dropping singles a few weeks back, and he’s just released the highly anticipated War & Leisure.

Z-Ro has a new album which sounds like his old albums, so if you’re into those, you’ll likely bump this.

FOTR: DJ Craze

FOTR this week is one of the baddest (if not THE baddest) DJ on the planet. The resume should be well known already but this dude is as technically gifted on the decks as it gets. 3X solo DMC champ in a row (the only DJ to ever to accomplish that feat), multiple team titles with The Allies and a stack of Youtube vids showing off his skills that millions and millions of views. Not to mention his continued push to play and feature the dopest and most forward thinking turn up anthems in his sets. He’s also one of the dudes running Slow Roast Records, which is an imprint that’s been cranking out killer content for years now. Catch this recent showcase of skills, next level tunes and some Slow Roast catalog in Craze’s amazing Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 from a couple weeks ago. You’ve got just under 3 weeks to stream this bad boy. Check it out and link with Craze on all the socials outlined below.

Every week we scour the record bins for new music to share with you – it’s That New New! This morning we suffered through the entire Bjork album because we love you, and unless you’re into aimless singing about who knows what over a backdrop of seagulls and someone grunting, you’ll probably do best to skip it and and go straight to these gems:

We still love rappin’ ass rappers, and Fabolous & Jadakiss are two of the best ever. Friday On Elm Street (because Jada’s real name is Jason and Fabo starts with an F, I guess?) has a few clunkers, but also plenty of servicable bars over traditional NY beats. The song with Future feels forced, but overall we give it two claws up.

Frank Ocean has a gorgeous new single called “Provider,” and it has drums! Watch the lyric video above, or stream it here.

At this point either you love Burial or you don’t; his new one is a bit more housey than you’d expect. It’s called “Rodent” and you can listen to it here.

All this plus new music from Cassady Locke, Tory Lanez, and more:

The Rub November 2017

FOTR: A Party Called Rosie Perez

Our other #FOTR this week is a full residency of DJs from one of Brooklyn’s most exciting new parties, A Party Called Rosie Perez. DJ’s Laylo, Suce & Christian Martir combined forces after years of individually playing parties and events in BK and noticing there was a void in Latin influenced nightlife and clubbing. Starting as a solo one-time one off in 2015, A Party Called Rosie Perez was a massive success immediately. Noticing the vibe catching fire and understanding the drive for the demand, they quickly turned this into a monthly traveling party around the entire borough. Fast forward to early 2017 and they celebrated their 1 year anniversary, featured in a party profile on Remezcla and are wrapping up an extremely successful 2017 with an appearance with us at The Rub. Check out their links, 1 year anniversary recap video below and make sure to get some Latin flavor in your post Thanksgiving weekend in the front room this Saturday at The Bell House!

CyHi The Prynce’s record No Dope On Sundays has a crazy list of guests – Kanye, Travis Scott, Pusha T, Schoolboy Q, 2 Chainz – but our favorite is “Nu Africa,” featuring poet Ernestine Johnson. It’s already a really dope song, with CyHi spitting about repatriation over a filthy chop of Kool & The Gang, but then Johnson’s spoken verse at the end just sends chills down your spine.

We featured rapper/singer 6LACK’s “That Far” in the spring, and now his album FREE 6LACK has arrived. On first listen it’s great, especially the bonus track “One Way,” featuring T-Pain. To be honest this one is better than anything on T-Pain’s new album.

Weirdly, both Ashanti & Roy Woods have new songs called “Say Less,” and both are pretty great! All these songs are on our That New New Q4 playlist, plus new ones by Demo Taped, Miguel and PnB Rock:

We’re launching a new series of Hip-Hop History mixes, highlighting producers. We’re starting with Mike Will Made It, a multiplatinum beatmaker who has crafted hit records over the last 6 years for Future, Ciara, Rae Sremmurd, 2 Chainz, Juicy J, Drake, Rihanna, Beyonce – pretty much all the major hip-hop and R&B artists on the radio in this decade. Mike Will has an impressive range of records in his discography, and he’s known for his signature deep 808s bubbling at a slow tempo.

Whose catalog should we dig into for the the next Hip-Hop History: The Producers mix? Let us know at Facebook.com/itstherub and Twitter.com/itstherub.
