Fight Music (MOP Download)

MOP

Want over 30 MOP tracks, all masterfully mixed together? Simply click here to download DJ Eleven’s ‘Fight Music: The Best Of MOP’, which pretty much does what it says in the title. Now read on to hear him break down the science of the mix… Salute!

When did the idea to do an MOP mix come about?
“I’ve always felt like dudes were criminally underrated, long been a huge fan, and had always wanted to do a project which would allow me to listen to MOP for months on end. So when I was presented with the chance to get a connect to them through the Spitkicker guys, I jumped at the chance. Sure, it took well over a year to make it happen, but it was worth the wait.”

Jonny Blaze Interview

Check out this interview with our guest at The Rub in August:

“DJ Jonny Blaze has been a key figure in Baltimore club for more than a decade. So when I contacted him for an interview recently, he was understandably curious about what took me so long to look him up. But the fact of the matter is, well, there’s a lot of Jonny Blazes out there-I mistakenly introduced myself to another DJ using the name at an event a couple years ago. “Man, it’s like hundreds of ’em,” says the 38-year-old producer born John Grant. “They hit me up on MySpace, ‘How long you had your name?’ One guy said he had his name since 2005. I got you beat, my cousin gave me my name back in ’88.”

Changes: Rub 2.0

We’ve got a few changes to announce:  The Rub website has finally made the leap to proper blog.  Thanks Oka!  Thanks Andy! So from now on, news will be on the front page here, and everything will properly archive, making the site a lot easier for us to update and for you to follow.  The other real big news is that all the mixes are back up on Crewcial.org.  Thanks Ian!  That includes all the Hip-Hop History mixes and a ton of other mixes littered throughout the news page.  Be sure to grab all The Rub Live mixes (2003 – 2007) here: http://therub.crewcial.org/live/

Last, we are working on It’s The Motherfucking Remix Vol. 3, which will be out in September on CD with remixes from a ton of great DJs including the usual suspects and some newer names who have played at The Rub more recently.  So definitely be on the lookout for that!

The Rub at the Do-Over in LA + pix

The Do-Over is a Sunday afternoon party in LA that always has incredible DJs and never announces the line-up; they post the DJ sets on their blog so everyone who didn’t get in can hear what they missed. Like The Rub, they always have a line around the block, and like The Rub, the DJs can play whatever they want – that means good music! Ayres, Eleven & Cosmo have all played the Do-Over separately. Here are the DJ sets, along with pictures from the most recent Do-Over.
