FOTR: DJ Nu-Mark

FOTR this week is DJ Nu-Mark. He’s a past guest of The Rub way back in the Southpaw days and his time with Jurassic 5 should be familiar to most all readers of this website. The thing that’s always set him apart from other DJs is his sheer ability to use unusual tools and tricks to show new and creative ways of flexing on a “dj” set. Whether it’s rocking fisher price toys, tiny record players or even a rubberband on a tone arm…Nu-Mark is just a different breed of party rocker. Also doesn’t hurt that his selections are top notch as well. 3 great examples of his prowess are below with his recent birthday Zodiac mix set for the Leo’s, his recent feature mix on BBC 6 and his set on the tiny decks for DJ City back in May. All are immediately worth watching / pressing play.

This staple of the Pacific Northwest, whether he’s in Seattle or Portland as he seems to migrate between the two, has been around since the Hollerboard days and is still holding court to this day. He’s always playing various different types of parties and rocking numerous styles, something that can be attested to his diverse musical palate. He’s also been a consistent contributor to the DJ edit game over the years. If you ever grabbed any of those edit packs on his Tumblr back in the day, consider yourself lucky to be sitting on that DJ weapon gold. As of late, he’s been steady updating his Heartthis.at page (RIP Doc’s Soundcloud) with new and old edits that are all freely downloadable. F.O.T.R. – Timothy Curtis

TimCurtisPainting

A little over two years ago, a new AGUA print popped up at ICY SIGNS and immediately grabbed our attention – who made that?, and please take our money! Fast forward to last November, and the artist, now working under his government name Timothy Curtis, was painting daily at the Coney Island exhibit at Brooklyn Museum alongside our old friend Stephen Powers. You can go see him there until the end of the summer, and if he isn’t there he’s at Icy Signs – but really you should go either way, because now you need that print!

MANIFESTED DESTINY Let's do it again today young bul! @coneyislandartwalls

A photo posted by AGUA (@timothy.curtis) on

When you come out to Coney Art Walls on July 9th for The Rub x 143, you’re going to see this mural, plus around 30 more by world class artists, all for the low low price of $10. And they have a ton of good food and booze, AND an incredible sound system with your favorite selectors pumping tunes. But anyway back to Tim Curtis – we’ve been dreaming of using his artwork on a flyer since seeing that first print in 2014, and this Coney Island party presented the perfect opportunity. Feast your eyes on this beauty, with layout and text by 143’s resident renaissance man, Siik:

Next up on Friends of The Rub, we’re going to introduce you to the stars of the show, 143. Until then, you’re going to want to smash that follow button on Timothy Curtis. And we went to send massive thanks to Steve and Icy Signs for linking us with the files, love you forever!
