FOTR: Mike Baker the Bike Maker

Bay Area, by way of NY, rapper Mike Baker the Bike Maker is our #FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week. You may remember Mike from his project he did with Eleven a couple years ago. We give a nod out to Mike this week as just dropped his new full length project, Cool Ass Life, which the HRNL member states that he strives to make “dope sounds that you can ride to”. The new album is definitely very backyard bbq party friendly with 10 vibed out cuts and an overall throwback sound that feels and sounds very familiar. You can stream the whole album below in addition to checking out his socials as well.

DJ Day Seratocast

SeratoCast Mix 35 – DJ Day by Serato on Mixcloud

Our long time friend DJ Day has recorded a mix for the Serato series and it’s absolutely perfect for a summer Sunday. Listen once for your mind and again for your soul.

FOTR: Bo Bliz

Philly is most definitely in the house for our 13 year anniversary party this Saturday at The Bell House. Our 2nd special guest and #FOTR (Friend of The Rub) of the week is Bo Bliz and he’s been holding things down in the city of brotherly love for what seems like forever. Whether it’s been through his efforts with his Crossfaded Bacon brethren, Emynd, or his massively successful WORKOUT! parties with fellow special guest this month, Low-Bee…Bo is a bonafied staple of the dj and party scene in Philly. One of the more popular parties he’s been a part of is the It’s The Year… series when he and Emynd keep it real and only play joints from one specific year all night. Check out the stream below on the 90’s mix Bo did to hype the night and make sure to check him out this Saturday at The Rub.

FOTR: Low-Bee

Our first FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week is Low-Bee aka Low Budget aka Low Beezy. If you’re reading this and thinking you may not be familiar with the name, you probably already are and just don’t realize it. As a co-founder of the Hollertronix brand with Diplo, Low-Bee has been a key cog in the turnup fusion party scene since the jump many years ago. Those early Hollertronix parties can even be given credit for influencing a whole new way of djing by mixing different styles and eras of music together in a way that had never really been done before…at least not on that level. Fast forward to 2015 and Low-Bee is a party staple in his hometown of Philly by killing clubs with anything and everything dope in the music world. We’re proud to have him as one of our special guests this month for The Rub’s 13th Anniversary party this Saturday. Peep this mix from his Workout night with fellow guest this month Bo Bliz and get psyched this weekend’s jump off.

FOTR Pt 2: Nadastrom

FOTR (Friends of The Rub) this week is Nadastrom. And even though we featured them earlier in the year, they are quietly having a huge 2015 release wise. The finally put out their debut album back in February, but have wasted no time in getting out a whole entirely different project that also acts as a mini-album tribute to an episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Yeah…you read that right and it’s also a very classic episode of the show as well. The Life and Times of Raphael De La Ghetto is a sample heavy release with sick interpretations of hip-house and heady funk sprinkled with elements of the show and it’s an incredibly fun release that just recently dropped that we think is worth the listen. Stream it in full below.

FOTR: Statik Selektah

Veteran dj/producer Statik Selektah is our FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week as he celebrates the release of his latest solo album, Lucky 7. It’s hard to argue that there’s been anyone more busy in hip-hop the last 7 or so years than Statik. Multiple radio show residencies (including his current stay at Shade45), 7 star-studded solo albums and too many collaborative projects to really count have all contributed to this crazy hustle. With features from the likes of Bun B, Royce Da 5’9″, Action Bronson, Joey Badass, Sean Price and so many others, Lucky 7 hits stores today and you can cop it here. Stream 3 tunes from the project below as well.

FOTR: Keys N Krates

Canadian trio Keys N Krates have been longtime ‘Friends of The Rub’ so featuring them this week for FOTR was an easy choice, if not an overdue one. These dudes have been diving into the live music combined with dj oriented sounds and electronic music vibes since all the way back in 2008 and the past few years have really seen the project take off. World travels and festivals have become common place and as have successful tunes and videos like their recent win at the Much Music Video Awards for Best EDM/Dance Video for “Keep It 100”, their collaboration with fellow Rub homie Grandtheft. They recently released their first single of 2015 as well in “Save Me” featuring Katy B on vocal duty. Stream it now and clicks some links so you can stay connected with the crew.

FOTR: Sammy Needlz

Since it’s “Rub Week” and all, FOTR (Friends of the Rub) this week features this month’s special guest Sammy Needlz. This NY based Producer/DJ is a longtime staple at Shade45 on SiriusXM and has traveled all around the world to rock various different club scenes. In recent years, he’s begun to heavily focus on working in the studio and being involved with the creation of original music, whether it’s his own or his A&R efforts on a number of current projects. We’re expecting him to bring the ruckus on Saturday at the Bell House so make sure and pop in the front room to check out what this dude can bring to the tables. For now, check is his latest mix for Serato below.

FOTR: Morgan Geist

FOTR (Friend Of The Rub) this week is NYC native Morgan Geist who’s been a true American innovator on the electronic music scene for over 20 years now. Whether through the extremely influential group Metro Area, the UK chart topping Storm Queen project or his own solo aliases, Geist has had his hands in so much for so long it’s kind of crazy to peep his resume at this point. Via his own Environ label imprint, he debuted a new project just last week called The Galleria that has our collective ears and feet buzzing. The A side “Calling Card” is featured below and bounces along with such a crazy old school freestyle vibe and it’s been on constant repeat. Snag the whole EP HERE as well as it’s all extremely well done.

FOTR: Eli Escobar

For FOTR this week, we give a shout out to the longtime NY vet, Eli Escobar. He’s been producing and djing for somewhere around the 20 year mark and while he’s constantly playing somewhere in the city, the summertime seems to be his time to really shine. As part of Tiki Disco (along with Andy Pry and Lloydski), the crew draws around a couple thousand people every other Sunday at The Well as the party has become quite the storied “Sunday Funday” legend in NY. On top of the party success, he also just released his first LP on his label Night People just last week. Stream Up All Night in full below to get a taste of how he’s currently laying it down for the NY house set. Check out some of his links as well so you can keep tabs on all things Eli and Tiki.
