FOTR: Them Jeans

FOTR this week is Jason Stewart, aka Them Jeans. Jason was the first person to bring The Rub out to Los Angeles over 10 years ago, and at this point he’s the mayor of LA as far as we’re concerned. His work as a DJ, producer and promoter has shaped the LA nightlife and music scene since most of you were in short jeans. Plus if you’re not already up on it, his Tall Tales podcast is a delight. Check out the most recent show with guests Asher Roth and Jake Troth, along with some other links, below.

FOTR: DJ Riz

FOTR this week is DJ Riz, who also happens to be our guest this Saturday at The Bell House in Brooklyn. It’s our first edition of The Rub in 2016 and there may not be a better DJ in the world to do it with. Riz has truly reached a higher level of DJs in the game and his skills have always been nothing less than jaw dropping. We already shared the recorded sets from his legendary last visit to The Rub just last week. Below is maybe the most famous influential tape Riz ever made with Live From Brooklyn. Check them all before this Saturday and make sure to click some links below.

FOTR: Skratch Bastid

FOTR today is the long time Canadian homie Skratch Bastid. He’s been on a very high level as a performer and ambassador for DJs for a long time now and continues to do great work year after year. A lot of his performance videos that he’s shared online have blown up but maybe none as fast as his tribute to the late great David Bowie, which went up just yesterday and has been streamed a bazillion times on his Facebook page. Additional links below.

RIP David Bowie.Late night in the studio… took a break from working on a new mix to check my feeds… only to find it flooded with news that the legendary David Bowie has passed. Lots can be said & written to eulogize prolific artists like him, but I think the most appropriate way for a DJ to celebrate my favourite artists is by sharing their music. So how about a little routine? 1983's "Let's Dance" was produced by David himself & Nile Rodgers (from Chic, recently featured on Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky'), and was Bowie's biggest song to date, 20 years into his career. The guy never stopped creating — he stayed recording and collaborating with artists like Arcade Fire & LCD Soundsystem over the last decade, and even put out an album two days ago, before his untimely passing. If that's not motivation as an artist, I don't know what is. So this one's for you, David — a tribute, just having some fun with a dancefloor smash that has always been a favourite to double copies of while keeping people moving. Don't mind the smilin', I can't help it. Rest easy…#GoProMusic

FOTR: DJ Run P.

FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week and one of our guests Saturday night at The Bell House is Brooklyn’s DJ Run P. Run is about as accomplished as they come and would much rather talk to you about “the experience” before anything else. This dude certainly knows his samples as well, since he was given his first set of turntables at the age of 11 and has been a self-proclaimed student of music ever since. Check out some of his links below as well as this recent mix from this past 4th of July and don’t miss his set this Saturday for The Rub.
