FOTR: Steve1der

FOTR this week is our good bud Steve1der. He’s been a fixture in LA for well over a decade whether on the DJ or remixer tip and is highly influential in both realms with working DJs all over the world. He’s always been one of those working DJ heads that actually has his ear to the ground for new sounds and has a knack for helping break dope records and plays them in way where they resonate with the listener. This Saturday, he returns to BK for his 2nd trip to The Rub and we’re super stoked to have him back in the building. He also provided our guest mix for Rub Radio this month, which you can peep below as well as keeping up with all his socials. And make sure to not miss his set Saturday night at The Bell House!

FOTR: AC Slater

FOTR this week is the Night Bass don AC Slater. He’s been putting wobbles in house music long before bass house (or EDM for that matter) was a buzz word and continues to slang it all in multiple ways in 2016. Between his Night Bass label, his own production output and being a constant ambassador for the scene, AC Slater works as hard as anyone for the sound and vibe he’s helped cultivate from the ground up. Yesterday saw the release of his latest solo EP “Bass Inside” on OWSLA. The video for the title track and stream for the collaboration with fellow low end house figurehead, Chris Lorenzo, are below. Check em out and click some links to stay in the loop with AC.

FOTR: DJ Spinna

FOTR this week is BK’s own DJ Spinna. As one of the biggest purveyors of all things good music on the DJ/party circuit, Spinna continues to leave his lasting impression whenever and wherever he plays. He’s also an extremely accomplished producer with a very impressive discography spread out over years of releasing music and mixes with labels like BBE, Rawkus, Nite Grooves and many others. He’s carved out a name for himself in recent years as well doing tribute nights for the likes of Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and the recently deceased Prince. In honor of Prince, his birthday and his recently named “Prince Day” in his native Minnesota, Spinna will be at Good Room in BK tonight for a celebration of Prince’s life and legacy. Check that out if you’re in the area and check out a recent (almost) 3 hour marathon set from the man below.

FOTR: Jubilee

FOTR this week is Jubilee. We’ve featured her in this column before and we’re giving this Miami born/NY based dj/producer and curator another nod because she’s just dropped Part 2 of her Magic City compilation series. This musical homage to Miami is layered with all sorts of influences and genres and features the likes of Salva, Ape Drums, Addison Groove and L-Vis 1990, among many others. Ayres personal chimed in on this comp to say he likes LouisVExclusive’s “Dab Daddy” best, as it sounds like the Miami Bass side of T&A Breaks 1 thrown in a blender. And Strict Face’s “Skyway Condo” is a really pretty to end the comp – we used it to close out Rub Radio in May! Stream Magic CityII in full below or grab the DOWNLOAD.

FOTR: DJ Mel Pt. 2

FOTR this week again is Austin’s DJ Mel, as he’s our guest for The Rub at The Bell House this Saturday. As mentioned before, Mel’s pretty much the man in Austin, TX. Whether it’s been his Rock The Casbah 80’s themed special events, his insanely long running weekly Monday party at Nasty’s or being the official DJ for University of Texas Longhorns basketball, he’s always steady on the grind. What’s brought him to a national stage in recent years is his work DJing events for President Obama in the past and now for Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. Check out Mel’s slick recent Phife/A Tribe Called Quest tribute mix and all the links to his socials below.

FOTR: A-Trak

FOTR this week is Fool’s Gold co-founder and globetrotting DJ, A-Trak. He’s one of the most influential DJs on the planet and continues to rep for real djs and creatives in everything he does. He’s been a long time friend of The Rub and should really be no stranger to you at this point. It’s crazy to think it’s been almost 20 years since he made history as the youngest DMC winner ever, a record he still holds to this day. In 2016, you can catch A-Trak running all over the world festival circuit and continuing to push his growing arsenal of original productions. His latest tune featuring Phantogram recently went up for streaming and is officially released this coming Friday. Peep it below and follow this “United Hairline” on his socials if you aren’t already.

And hard to believe this is almost two decades old but it’s always worth noting where it all started…

FOTR: POOLS

FOTR this week is POOLS, the quirky dj and production duo made up of Thee Mike B and DJ Morsecode. These LA dudes have been friends forever and both been at the DJ game for eons. But a few years ago, they united over their love of pool season (and possibly weed) to create this unique project. Several top notch mixtapes, edits and a stellar LP from last year on Razor-N-Tape later, POOLS is very much a thing in 2016. Since pool season is again upon us, they’ve hit us with another mixtape that deserves repeated listening. Peep the nu nu in …scrumptious wades below and give them a follow on Soundcloud. We think you’ll be glad you did.

FOTR: DJ Sabo

FOTR this week is DJ Sabo. This LA based DJ got in his groove initially in New York and then relocated to LA a number of years ago when Tropical Bass and Moombahton were very much a thriving scene. He’s played all over the world and his renown for his incredibly deep and journey filled DJ sets. Sabo’s been a very active producer during that time as well, along with developing his Sol Selectas record label imprint. Even though he’s been releasing his own music for well over a decade, yesterday saw the release of his debut full length LP. You can check out Vibe Quest up now exclusively on Beatport. You can peep the teaser mix as well streaming below.

FOTR: DJ A.Vee

FOTR this week is Brooklyn’s own, DJ A.Vee. He’s also our guest this Saturday at The Bell House for the April edition of The Rub. A.Vee’s been grinding through the club and mixtape circuit for what seems like forever and his history has him tied to such industry icons such as DJ Jazzy Jeff and Prince Paul. He’s spent time as a resident on Shade45 and DJ’d all over the world. And this Saturday he touches down in the front room for what’s sure to be a very special (and purple) edition of The Rub. You definitely don’t want to miss it.

FOTR: Trackademicks

Trackademicks is our FOTR this week. This Honor Roll Crew affiliate and Bay Area stalwart is an extremely accomplished producer and artist that has been hard at work pumping out music for well over a decade. While much of his work may fly under the radar, he’s released music on Fool’s Gold Records as well as dropping notable remixes for Zero 7, Chromeo, Platinum Pied Pipers and more. He’s started a new free download series last week revolving around an interpretation of that particular month’s Zodiac sign. You can find that below plus his fairly recent re-upload of his legendary remix of the E-40 classic “Tell Me When To Go”. Maybe click some links too while you’re at it.
