Posted: April 17, 2012 Filed under: Friends of The Rub, MP3, Rub Radio, The Rub“Friends of the Rub” continues this week with a friend that is near and dear to our Rub family, Sammy Bananas.
Sam has been one busy guy this year with multiple projects under his belt. Last week, he put out a new track “La Musica” that we’re big fans of and is available for free download. Grab it below!
Can’t forget to mention his Young Jeezy “I Do” bootleg, which has been a staple in DJ sets all over the festivals the past few months. Such an addictive tune! Also available for free download below:
He also has been working on a very noteworthy cause called “DJ’s for Climate Change.” He’s put in a ton of his personal time to make a difference, and this past year was his biggest ever. Read more about his cause: DJ’s for Climate Change
Full support from us for this endeavor.
Big congrats to Sammy on getting engaged this year as well! Sorry ladies, you’ll have to try and find another mustache out there. This one’s taken.

Posted: April 13, 2012 Filed under: Flyers, Press, The RubAfter a fantastic housewarming party in March, it’s time we get down to business and start our monthly residency at The Bell House on the last Saturday of every month.
Mark your calendars and join us on Saturday, April 28th.
Good news for all DJ Eleven fans as he has created a one-stop shop for nearly all of his mixes released. Our pals over at MixCloud have featured numerous projects from The Rub, including our History of Hip-Hop and our last Southpaw party, but we are proud to be able to showcase all of the tireless work DJ Eleven has put in on each of these very unique mixes.
Friends of The Rub – The Freshest
Posted: April 13, 2012 Filed under: Friends of The Rub, MP3, Rub Radio, The RubOur next installment of “Friends of The Rub” showcases a really unique live project by Vancouver DJ team The Freshest (comprised of DJ’s Seko, Marvel, Kutcorners, and Rico Uno). The duo of DJ Marvel and Kutcorners absolutely crush it here with a mix of R&B/Rap tricked out with some dirty synths and keys, all played live. They make this look far too easy!
Keep in touch with The Freshest by checking out their website as well as their Twitter timeline.

After an amazing run at Southpaw, we were all excited to get our foot in the door and start a brand new era at our new home The Bell House.
The night was a smashing success. We thank you all for coming out to celebrate and support us in our new digs. The place was packed and our guests all brought their ‘A’ game. It was such an honor to have Max Glazer, DJ Sure Shot, Scott Melker, and Kool Kear rock with us and they did not disappoint.
Reminder – We will be back the last Saturday of every month starting on April 28th!

We’ve worked with Scott Melker for years, as he has guested at the Rub numerous times, toured with Rub members, and even collaborated on mixes with us as well. He’s one of New York’s top DJ’s that fits in with our mentality perfectly.
We are ecstatic to have him play with us tonight and even more gratified to offer you his new remix:
Live at Southpaw (February 2012)
Posted: March 1, 2012 Filed under: MP3, Rub Radio, The Rub | Tags: February 2012 Live MixWe put a whole lot of thought into our sets for the last one at Southpaw, and we wanted to hit a ton of Rub “standards” from the past 9 years in addition to the brand new music and classics we’re known for. The party was completely rammed from 10 PM til 4:00 AM, and this two hours is chopped down from the entire six hours we recorded. We edited it to reflect the arc of the party and tried to leave in the best parts without fucking up the flow too much, and you can hear all the drunken shoutouts and some of the crowd noise. This was the most fun party we’ve ever DJed in our lives, and we think it’s just a taste of what’s to come.
Mixcloud – History of Hip-Hop 2000-2009
Posted: March 7, 2000 Filed under: History of Hip-Hop, MP3, Rub Radio, The RubWe are ever so fortunate that Mixcloud decided to post all 31 years of our expansive ‘History of Hip-Hop’ series. This week, it all culminates with their posting of the 2000’s.
We’re looking for a Rub takeover on the Mixcloud homepage, so please be sure to take a few moments to listen, while at work or at home, to reacquaint yourself with the past decade of Hip-Hop.

This time capsule approach to each year uncovers a slew of already forgotten gems. Ayres says it best: ” I think that hip-hop has this canon of “old-school” jams that get played at parties and make it onto “greatest of all time” lists, but over time the canon shrinks, and you’re left with a bunch of songs that represent current tastes rather than what was good at the time. As a DJ this can be frustrating, because we don’t want to be limited to Biggie, Tupac, Tribe, etc. We love those artists and but also feel there are lots of other great forgotten artists who were maybe less influential but still have records that will rock at a party. So I hope the series can do something to push back against that narrow-mindedness, or forgetfulness, or whatever you want to call it, that shrinking awareness that happens over time. It would be a shame if in 20 years the Throwback at Noon show was comprised of only Eminem, Drake and Lil Wayne…”
