One of our guests for The Rub this month is DJ GetLive! Born and raised in Queens, GetLive! has been djing since 1999 by sneaking into clubs and jumping on the decks at the tender age of 16. He’s quickly become one of our favorite DJs in the city and he’s known for his party rocking djing style that features a diverse and eclectic music selection on top of slick turntable skills that makes classic records you may have forgot about sound incredibly fresh and new again. We let him take over Rub Radio this month and he provided us with a live set from his Donuts are Forever party, an annual tribute to the one and only Dilla. He totally brought the goods on this mix. Peep this and definitely make sure you do not miss his set this Saturday at The Bell House.

#TBT – Rub Radio February 2016 – Rok One Edition
Posted: February 15, 2018 Filed under: Rub Radio | Tags: Rok One, Rub Radio#TBT this week is to our February 2016 guest edition of Rub Radio from Rok One. Because he has an encyclopedic knowledge of all things rap related and makes great mixes, we thought he’d be the perfect person to make an Anti-Valentine’s Day mix last year. If you believe in holding grudges against exes who did you wrong, lyrics explicitly airing your awkward sexual predictions (hi Kanye!), and a general hostility towards the opposite sex, you’re gonna love this one! Especially if you’re cursing the way Hallmark shoves Valetine’s Day down your throat year after year.

FOTR: Sammy Needlz

Our other special guest this month is NY’s own Sammy Needlz. Sammy is Producer/DJ/doer-of-all and is a decade plus staple at Shade45 on SiriusXM with fellow Rub homie Statik Selectah. He’s also traveled all around the world to dj different club scenes and recently he’s started to spread his wings as a budding tour manager for a pretty crazy roster of top shelp EDM talent. Over the past several years, he’s also started to heavily focus on working in the studio further investing in his music skills, whether it’s his own or his A&R efforts on a number of current projects. Behind the decks though, that’s his real claim to fame and we’re expecting him to really come with it on Saturday at the Bell House. Don’t miss him getting down with Uproot Andy in the front room Saturday. For now, bump this live Ice Cream Sundays mix he dropped a couple years ago loaded with so many classics.

Uproot Andy is one of our special guests this Saturday for The Rub at The Bell House. He’s been murdering the scene on the global beats vibe for years and we’re extremely stoked to have him at The Rub. As founder of Que Bajo, he’s helped maintain New York as a multi-cultural dance haven. In addition to the festivities Saturday, he’s dropping his new Studio 189 mixtape/16 track remix album on Thursday at Esther & Carol in Manhattan. And while we wait for his flood of new content, check out his Boiler Room set from August of 2017 below. Give him a follow on the socials as well.

Their catalog of underground classics for the entire Dungeon Family runs deep. We give you all of that, plus lesser-known songs by Joi, Brandy, Mista. This mix could have easily been twice as long!

#TBT – The Rub – History of Hip-Hop 1997
Posted: January 11, 2018 Filed under: History of Hip-Hop, TBT | Tags: History Of Hip-Hop, TBTListen to The History of Hip Hop 1997 byBrooklyn Radio on hearthis.at
TBT today to our History of Hip-Hop Mix from 1997, arguably the best year of hip-hop ever. Some of the best ever laid down some bonafied classics in this 12 month period 20 years ago and they are peppered all over in this mix. Biggie flexed with the release of “Life After Death” right after he was lost to a senseless murder. Wu Tang returned with their second full length as fans were completely obsessed. Gang Starr dropped another classic LP. Master P solidified a full blown No Limit movement with the release of “Ghetto D”. Mase, MF Doom, The Beatnuts, Redman and more solidified their place in the scene with top shelf tunes as well. Check the mix in full below by stream or download.
