FOTR this week is a new project from some old friends. Skinny Friedman and Scott Melker have united to form Funkontrol. While they’ve been hard a work on music together for awhile now, the project is newly unveiled and shared with the world. They’ve signed the project to Tommy Boy Records and just released their first single, “Banker’s Club”, a couple weeks ago. It’s a brooding and crispy electro influenced hip-hop track that’s really well done. You can stream it below in full as well as click some links to follow the guys. Stay tuned for an LP from them dropping as early as this Summer.

TNN is carrying us into the first full week of March and we’re beginning to see warm weather tunes hitting the airwaves. It’s still cold as you know what here in NY but there are signs of Spring coming in and the music is only helping things move along. First up this week is a recent one from Calvin Harris and surprise collaborators Frank Ocean & Migos. Doesn’t really matter how this song came together. I’m calling it now though…”Song of The Summer of 2017″. Second, we’ve got a new electro pop dance number from Geotic (aka Baths) and this is a really tasty patio season type vibe. Finally, we’ve got a new one from Bobby Raps. The Minnesota rapper has been quiet on the solo tip but has started to resurface with some album credits on the latest LP from The Weeknd and now his 2nd single in as many weeks. Stream all three tracks in full below.
#TBT – Rub Radio – March 2013
Posted: March 2, 2017 Filed under: Rub Radio, TBT | Tags: Rub Radio, TBT#TBT this week to Rub Radio 4 years ago with the March 2013 edition. Surkin had just dropped an insane new EP that’s criminally underrated to this day. PSY was a global phenomenon so much that Diplo remixed him. Flume was still a super unknown. JT was in the midst of 20/20 Experience domination. Classix and Aeroplane were 2 of the hottest names in house music. And vibes in general were starting to win out over the aggressive turn up. Revisit that full stream above and grab the download below.

TNN returns this week after a week off. And while there’s been a healthy dose of new music coming out, the last 10 days or so absolutely and completely belong to Future. He’s dropped two 17 song LPs in back-to-back weeks, each album catered to specific audiences and both are slotted to debut #1 on the Billboard Top 200. If that goes down, that’s the first time ever an artist has released 2 albums in 2 weeks and they both debut at #1. So with the spirit of history, here’s 4 songs from these LPs that stood out after early listening sessions. Stream all 4 in full below.

Our second FOTR this week and additional special guests at The Bell House this Saturday night is Chances With Wolves. This dj duo made up of Kenan and Kray have been running with CWW as a radio show for going on 9 years now and are way more interested in the vibe than any sort of restricted format. Check out the latest episode of their wonderful show below (a special tribute to Nina Simone at that!) and make sure you check them on the set Saturday night with the rest of the crew!

1 of our FOTR this week is Phi Unit, one of our guests this month for The Rub. Phi has been in BK for a grip now and has certainly made his mark as a DJ and producer. His “So Emotional” mixtape and remix series with other FOTR Cousin Cole is kinda legendary at this point, with their midtempo and tropical flavored flips of vibey love induced cuts. What’s really kept him busy and spreading his wings in recent years is his Building Beats program, which brings music and DJ programs to schools and underprivileged youth. It started out as a NY specific program but has quickly spread with national and international recognition. Check out his Playground Podcast below as well as links to all his relevant urls. And don’t miss Phi at The Bellhouse this coming Saturday!
