FOTR this week is the LA forever homie, Thee Mike B. It is believed that he came up with the phrase “a dude among dudes” or at least is the first one fully embody it. He’s been a staple DJ and influencer on the west coast for eons and in recent years, he’s carved out a nice little niche with his Brillstein house music productions. Case in point is his fire new EP on Brobot just out last week. You can peep those vibes below as well as get linked with all the Brillstein socials. If you tight with Mike, he just had a birthday Monday as well. Happy Birthday boss. Hope it was as trill as humanly possible.

Friends & enemies… The Rub is looking for a designer to help us out with flyers and a couple other art projects. If interested, check out our old flyers and hit us up with some examples of your work. Email us at itstherub@gmail.com if you’re interested!

Time to hit the back 9 of May already (seriously where is they year going so fast?) and TNN continues to keep it all grounded with that good new music consistency. First up is Calvin Harris featuring Future and Khalid on what feels like a Soundcloud era attempt at Daft Punk “Discovery” vibes with rappers and R&B hooks. And it works. Next up is a glimpse at what already feels like a strong contender for LP of the year. Sinjin Hawke pieced together some Kanye beats he submitted into an LP and “They Can’t Love You” is just a sample of it’s awesomeness. Finally, we’ve got a new one from the previously TNN featured F L A C O, which is the first single from his upcoming EP. Check out all 3 in full below.

Roots reggae is some of the most uplifting and genuinely feel good music on the planet and Eleven mixes all hour and 15 mins of it here on J.A. Goods 2 with extreme precision. Revisit this one for your rooftop and outdoor parties if you feel like being the one responsible for immediately enhancing the vibes, as the weather may actually call for said parties sooner than later (we hope). FOTR this week is the super longtime Rub homie, Sammy Bananas. This great producer/dj, activist and cool dad is still fighting the good fight in 2017 and we’ve got a couple things to give him dap for. First up is his continued work raising awareness for climate change with DJs for Climate Action. They recently marched in the Climate March in Washington DC and raised $1300 that same night at U Street Music Hall for the People’s Climate Movement. On top of that, he’s dropped some new music under a new alias, El Niño & The Southern Oscillations, that’s just gorgeous. Stay up with the man on the socials below.

TNN this week is strong with a few familiar names and one that may be new. Regardless, the content flow stays strong and signifies that 2017 is holding it’s own with new tunes. First up is brand new LCD Soundsystem. Like finally. This reunion has been a thing for some time and a new LP has been promised. But now it’s starting to feel real and it’s really good. Next is a “new” one from Cashmere Cat with Ty Dolla $ign featured on vocals from CC’s official debut LP. There was a version of the LP and this song that leaked months ago but it’s been rehashed and redone. In case you want check the original pre-Ty Dolla $ign, you can do that right here. Finally, we’ve got a new one from Tove Styrke with some jangling pop brilliance. Check out all 3 in full below.
TBT this week is when we used the May 2015 edition of Rub Radio as an excuse to hop into the Delorean and fire up the flux capacitor for a quick romp through 80s synth-pop, new wave and post-punk. Classic feels across the board from Ministry, Depeche Mode, Kim Wilde, Duran Duran, New Order and so many others. You can revisit this mix with the full stream above or free download below.

Here’s a little something DJ Parler captured this past Saturday night at #itstherub…

TNN rolls right into May (no Timberlake memes to be seen or used) and the new music train keeps on moving along super strong. This past week saw new LPs drop from Feist, Gorillaz, Cashmere Cat and more…and none of these are featured here. Basically the release pool is strong. First up is a solo cut from Offset of Migos. If there’s anyone who’s quietly become a name synonymous with catchiness in 2017 it’s this dude. His first solo cut “Monday” maintains this healthy trend. Next we have a new single off the upcoming new album from Shabazz Palaces and this is super retro and futuristic at the same time. Finally, we’ve got a new r&b heater from SZA with Travis Scott. Stream all 3 of this tight new tunes in full below.

We’ve got 100 skip-the-line tickets available now for tomorrow night’s party at The Bell House. $15 (all in…no fees) jumps you right past the line and straight through the door to the festivities. If you can’t get any of these tickets in time, don’t worry…there will be plenty of tickets at the door. Special guests this month are DJ Parler and Prince Klassen. We hope to see you all tomorrow night!
