FOTR: Annie Mac

FOTR this week is Annie Mac. She’s one of the most prominent radio DJ personalities in the world and who can really imagine BBC Radio 1 without her. Over the last decade, she’s made a name for herself off the air as well as a club dj, tastemaker, talent-finder and just an overall champion of new music. Over the last couple of years, she’s launched her own festival (AMP Lost & Found) and released her debut compilation album last year. Maybe this As she continues to be a trailblazer, she’s still holding down her weekly shows at BBC Radio 1 Monday – Friday. Last night featured a magnificent interview with Four Tet that you check below. Make sure to click some links and stay connected as well. Maybe she’ll bring back Free Music Monday’s at some point as well. 🙂

#TBT – Rub Radio – September 2014

#TBT this week to our Rub Radio edition from September 2014. This rap heavy mix was a bit of a precursor to some names being full blown stars in 2017. See Travis Scott, Run The Jewels, Young Thug, Big Sean, Rich Homie Quan, etc. This time 3 years ago saw the majority of the club world also doing the Shmoney dance every single night courtesy of Bobby Schmurda. Throw in some vibey tunes from Nick Catchdubs (remix of The Rub!), Keys N Krates, Kastle and CRNKN and this mix stands the test of time rather well. Revisit this one on the stream above and the free download below.

FOTR: Kenny Dope

We’ve got a legendary FOTR this week in Kenny Dope. He’s a 25 plus year veteran in the music game, a Grammy Winning producer, one half of the iconic Masters At Work and a sinister dj. As house music continues to have another resurgence/moment in the sun, it’s been great seeing this dude staying busy playing club gigs and festivals all over the world. He’s also still got the magic touch with the originals and remixes he’s still dropping every now and again. Check out his fire mix for RinseFM below from late July and stay up with Kenny on all the socials.

FOTR: Prince Klassen

FOTR this week is Prince Klassen. He’s a regular guest at The Rub and a top shelf FOTR if there ever was one. He moved out of NY at the end of 2016 and there was a short time where it was unknown if he was going to maintain his presence out our monthly event at The Bell House. Thankfully, things have settled in on a bit of normalcy and Prince Klassen has been a part of almost every Rub party so far in 2017. With his regularly scheduled monthly visits now, he’s been playing other parties and keeping up with his Wild Combinations Mix series out at Lot Radio. Check out his most recent mix below and click on some of his socials to keep tabs with our bud.

9.4 – That New New

September is here. Labor is today. So summer is basically over right? TNN keeps it hot as always though no matter what and we’ve got a great new batch of tunes to share with you this week. First up is the long awaited LP return of LCD Soundsystem as their new album is now officially out. Keeping it short, this LP is brilliant and the opener “Oh Baby” is just breathtaking. Next up is the 2nd new single from DJDS. “Why Don’t You Come On” features vocals from Khalid and Empress Of and it’s an incredibly interesting pop record. Lastly is a cut from newcomer Sam Dew. “Remember” is just another example of how great of a place R&B is at in 2017. Stream all 3 in full below.

#TBT The Rub – Going Back To Cali

Right around a decade ago, The Rub did a Summer West Coast tour and commemorated this journey with their very appropriately titled mix, Going Back to Cali. This mix showcases a wide variety of tunes with an obvious homage to a number of artists who have been instrumental in putting the West on the map and continuing that long standing tradition of excellence. The beauty of this mix to me though it never stays in one place stylistically or regionally, and the flow of sample drops in between their modern era flips is all too slick. Revisit this mix with a listen above and see if this doesn’t make you want to hit Cali for an end of summer getaway.

FOTR: Oliver

FOTR this week is the dj and production duo Oliver. U-Tern and Oligee linked together in LA many years ago and started off with a bang, releasing 80’s influenced funky disco tunes and remixes for the likes of Juan Atkins, Chromeo, Breakbot and many others. They quickly earned a strong reputation for their production prowess and dj sets and have traveled all over the world playing clubs and festivals alike. This past Friday saw the long awaited release of their debut full length record, which you can stream below in full. Give them a follow on all the relevant socials linked as well.

8.28 – That New New

TNN is back after a week away but damn what a week for rap to circle back in on. New stuff from MadeinTYO, Action Bronson, Buddy, Wiki, XXXtentacion, Brockhampton and more…and those didn’t even make the cut. The three joints that did though are pretty freaking sick and it runs the gauntlet of legends to new superstars to relative unknowns. First up is a new heater from Wu Tang Clan. You read that right. And it features a fire verse from Redman. New crew LP coming soon apparently but please ditch that horrendous artwork. Next up is the new superstar on the block (like it or not), Lil Uzi Vert. He dropped his “debut LP” on Friday and while it’s taking some time to digest…”Neon Guts” with Pharrell is undeniably rad. Last up is OMB Peezy out of Mobile, AL. This 20 year old has been releasing some exciting content and his latest “The Hard Way” does not disappoint. Stream all 3 in full below.
